The 2022 Supercross season is coming to an end, and the 2023 Supercross season is just around the corner. The 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross and SuperMotocross World Championships begin January 7 in Anaheim, California. We've gathered a list of teams, riders, and the 2023 series schedule so you're prepared.
Series
The debut season of the SuperMotocross World Championship will take place in 2023. For a combined series that lasts the entire year, the Supercross promoters (Feld) and the Pro Motocross promoters (MX Sports) have linked together. After the outdoor event, which serves as the official SuperMotocross World Championship, three additional "playoff" rounds will take place. The top 20 riders from both Pro Motocross and Supercross will qualify for the playoff rounds. The playoffs come with a bigger prize fund and a unique championship.
The 17-race Supercross series gets underway at Angel's Stadium on January 7th. San Diego's round moves from Petco Park to Snapdragon Stadium. The series culminates in Salt Lake City, Utah, after round 15 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Teams
In 2023, Chase Sexton #23 returns to Factory Honda. He was very close in 2022 and ended sixth overall. He'll wear Alpinestars gear, boots, and goggles. Sexton's current deal expires this year and there's significant uncertainty about his future.
Colt Nichols #45 - After missing the whole 22nd season due to injuries received at the season's opening race, Nichols joins the Factory Honda team. The former 250 class champion will ride just in Supercross this year.
250 Riders
Jett Lawrence, the Honda factory rider and reigning 250 Supercross champion, will compete in the 250-class this year. He's passing up the opportunity to defend his 250 East title in favor of racing in the 250 West class. It's expected that Jett will race a 450 in a few east coast rounds before replacing Nichols on the 450 for the outdoor season.
Hunter Lawrence, #96: Hunter Lawrence has signed a new contract with Factory Honda that will keep him in the red until 2024. He'll be racing the 250 east and outside. Hunter's new deal includes Alpinestars goggles.
Chance Hymas #832 turns pro in 2023. He may race some of the 250 East races before the outdoor national season.
No changes for Jason Anderson #21 in 2023. Jason Anderson returns to Team Green. He was a threat all year, finishing second in Supercross.
Adam Cianciarulo#9 AC has always ridden Kawasaki, and '23 looks the same. AC aims to be a contender indoors and outdoors after a tough 2022 season.
Tomac is expected to retire after 2023. He's signed an SX-only contract to defend his title. Tomac will ride the 2023 Yamaha YZ450F.
Dylan Ferrandis #14 rejoins Star Racing Yamaha for his third 450 seasons. We all know the speedy Frenchman's talent, despite his 11th-place finish last year.
Justin Cooper # 32, has withdrawn from the 250 Supercross divisions for 2023. The former champion may race the 450 before heading full-time outdoors.
